Investigator Hurt at Gun Range
An investigator for the Ventura County district attorney’s office accidentally shot himself in the thigh Thursday during a routine qualifying session at the sheriff’s shooting range in Camarillo, authorities said.
Larry Fryar, 44, an investigator in the Felony Trial Preparation Unit, was in stable condition at Pleasant Valley Hospital, a nursing supervisor said.
The accident occurred about 3:30 p.m., as Fryar finished a practice round with three other investigators.
Investigator Beth Hamilton, who was nearby, said Fryar had apparently begun to clean his handgun after completing a practice round.
“We have not yet determined if it was an accidental discharge or a malfunction of the firearm,” said Braden McKinley of the district attorney’s investigative unit.
