COMMUNITY COLLEGE BASKETBALL : Golden West Men Lose Their Third Consecutive Game
Golden West trailed by a point at the half but Santa Rosa pulled away for an 87-77 victory over the Rustlers in the first round of the Modesto tournament Wednesday in Modesto.
It was the third consecutive loss for Golden West (6-8), which was behind at the half, 38-37.
Golden West made only 10 of 30 free-throw attempts, which led to its downfall.
Mark Johnson scored 24 points, Greg Evans 20 and Paig Parish had 16 for Golden West. Evans led Golden West with three three-point shots. and Johnson and Matt Lundeen had each tied for a team-high with 11 rebounds.
Golden West plays Lemoore Naval Air Station in the consolation round today at 2:15 p.m. Lemoore lost to host Modesto, 72-70, also in the first round Wednesday.
