Smith’s Acquittal on Rape Charge

The Smith case tells a woman that if she chooses to be alone with a man it should be someone she knows and trusts completely. For if something should happen against her will she has no legal recourse. It will be “her word against his.” It makes the chaperoning custom of yesteryear seem not quite so out-of-date.
