Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : North’s Mailings ‘Upset’ Schwarzkopf

Operation Desert Storm commander H. Norman Schwarzkopf was “upset and angry” over Oliver L. North’s unauthorized use of the general’s name in a fund-raising letter, a Schwarzkopf spokesman said. Freedom Alliance, a nonprofit foundation operated by North, has been mailing out fund-raising requests accompanied by a color photo of Schwarzkopf, according to the general’s agent, Marvin Josephson. The mailings ask for donations to assist families of soldiers wounded in Operation Desert Storm. North, the ex-national security aide who played a key role in the Iran-Contra case, promised Josephson the mailings would stop, the New York-based agent said.
