Romanian Dailies Strike Over Soaring Paper Costs

BUCHAREST, Romania — The nation’s three largest daily newspapers failed to appear for the second day Saturday in a continuing protest against soaring newsprint prices.
The newspapers, which have a combined circulation of 700,000, said they feel threatened by a state firm’s monopoly on newsprint. The firm has increased paper prices 20-fold over the past year.
