Potts Wins 65 Crown at Grand Prix Masters

Stan Potts of San Diego won the men’s 65 title Friday at the Senior Grand Prix Masters Tennis Championships at the Rancho Bernardo Inn.
Potts defeated Clare Hoke of Claremont, 6-4, 6-1.
Dave Martin of San Marcos teamed with Riverside’s Fran Bushman to win the men’s 65 doubles title over Newport Beach’s Dick Fitzsimmons and Dick Soth, 6-4, 6-1.
In the women’s 65 doubles final, Pat Poiset of El Cajon and Fran Wakefield of Bonita defeated Lucy Dettmer and Connie Fuller, both of Cathedral City, 6-3, 7-5.
Competition in other age brackets continues today and Sunday at the Rancho Bernardo Inn.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
In a game with 58 missed shots, Point Loma Nazarene managed only 21 rebounds and subsequently lost, 68-56, to The Master’s College, which had 31 rebounds. Stuart Epperson carried most of the load for Master’s, scoring 20 points and pulling down six rebounds.
Donnie Buettner had 16 points and five rebounds and Frank Dews 13 points and six rebounds for PLNC (3-5).
After leading with as much as two minutes left in the first half, Christian Heritage dropped a 97-79 decision to Southern California College in the Christ College Irvine Tournament in Irvine.
Guard Shane McKim had a game-high 27 points for Christian Heritage. Hawk forward Gerves Fagan added 17 points.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Chihuahua defeated Point Loma Nazarene, 76-55, in a nonconference game at Golden Gym. Rochelle Lightner, who made eight of 11 field goals, scored 18 points for PLNC.
