PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP : Hughes’ Penalty Kick Puts Sea Kings in Final
Stefanie Hughes broke a tie with a penalty kick for Corona del Mar in the second half and the Sea Kings went on to a 2-1 victory in a consolation championship semifinal match of the Irvine girls’ soccer tournament.
Corona del Mar’s first goal came two minutes into the second half when Lisa Boatman scored off a corner kick. The consolation final is scheduled at 9 a.m. today at Irvine High School.
In the Irvine boys’ soccer tournament:
Laguna Hills 3, University 0--Goalkeeper Mike Messenger recorded his second shutout of the season for Laguna Hills (3-1-2) in the consolation semifinal round. Julio Montes scored the first goal off a throw-in by Andy Siskis. University goalie Riley Breckenridge had 11 saves. University is 1-2.
Mater Dei 2, Estancia 0--John Gerdis and Trevor Iches scored goals for Mater Dei (2-1-1) in the fifth-place semifinal.
