NHL : Canadiens Now Lead the Rest

TORONTO — Shane Corson had a goal and an assist as the Montreal Canadiens beat the Toronto Maple Leafs, 4-1, Monday night and moved into first place in the overall NHL standings.
Brent Gilchrist, Mike McPhee and Stephan Lebeau also scored for Montreal.
On Lebeau’s goal, Toronto’s Grant Fuhr made a great save on a wrist shot by Corson, but Fuhr’s inability to handle the rebound cost him. Lebeau took a swing at the puck with his stick between his waist and shoulders, lining the puck into the open side for his 12th goal. The Leafs protested in vain that it was an illegal goal.
