OUTLOOK
Since Bartelt took over the California Lutheran team four years ago, the C-Hawks used almost exclusively a fast-break offense because they usually lacked the size to engage other teams in half-court games. This year, the strategy has changed somewhat. The squad is a little taller than it was last season, when the C-Hawks struggled to a third-place tie with St. Michael’s Prep in the Academy League. Jorgensen (10 points per game) and Summers, who is up from the JV, provide height in the front line, so Bartelt is adding a new dimension to his offensive strategy. “We’ll run a single post, double post and even a triple post offense,” said Bartelt, who plans to unleash Summers, Jorgensen and Aguilar as his triple threat. “We’ll be doing a lot of different things with the ball.” Some of that will be to capitalize on the outside shooting of Krug, a transfer from Wisconsin, and Foley, both of whom Bartelt said can consistently hit from three-point range. On defense, Bartelt plans to use a full-court press and a 1-3-1 zone. “We’ll have to resort to the zone, especially when we get into league, because we are one of the smallest teams,” said Bartelt.
