Driver Held After Crashing Into Bus
A chartered bus carrying dozens of church students home from an outing was hit Sunday by a drunk driver who ran a red light, police said.
None of the passengers on the bus was injured, said Los Angeles Police Officer Randall Ojena.
The driver of the car, Luis Gonzalez, 19, of North Hollywood, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
The bus, which was traveling north on Coldwater Canyon Avenue, entered the intersection at Oxnard Street when Gonzalez’s car, heading west, ran the light and hit the right rear of the bus, Ojena said.
Gonzalez tried to drive off but hit a parked car and then abandoned his own vehicle a short distance away, Ojena said.
A witness who saw the accident followed him and detained him until police arrived.
