The Cal State Northridge women’s volleyball team will open play today in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship at Wright State in Dayton, Ohio.
Northridge (13-17), seeded ninth among 20 teams in the pool-play tournament, faces 17th-seeded Cornell (18-8) in its first match at 11 a.m.
The major test, however, will come tonight at 7 when the Matadors meet top-seeded Kentucky (18-13).
Northridge Coach Walt Ker said that his team was fortunate to be invited to the NIVC.
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo was in competition with Northridge for a bid, but the Matadors bumped the Mustangs (17-16) because they won two of three head-to-head matches in the regular season.
