OUTLOOK
Brown, El Toro’s third coach in three years, recently concluded a 10-year professional basketball career in the Philippines. He played for Jim Harrick at Pepperdine, and also played one season with the Houston Rockets. Brown isn’t the only new face at El Toro this year. The Chargers don’t have a returning starter from last year’s league championship team, and Brown will try to build a new lineup around post players. “We don’t have a lot of great shooters or a lot of really quick players,” Brown said. “We’ll need our tall players to step up and do the job at both ends of the court while our perimeter game is developing.” Center Lisa Jewett was El Toro’s top reserve last year and was an honorable mention all-league selection. The Chargers have additional inside size with Russell and Jewett’s sister, Janelle, as well as Richardson, Lauby and Reyes. Geraghty is the team’s top outside threat, but Brown is still looking for a consistent three-point shooter to take some of the pressure off inside. Stark and Watson also return at the guard positions.
