COLOR ME MAUVE: Architects of the Irvine Barclay Theatre, which opened 14 months ago (F1), insisted on natural gray for its concrete walls. But executive director Douglas C. Rankin rebelled. He went to a paint store, chose different colors and got some opinions from heavy-hitters. . . . “Ultimately it got down to (developer) Don Bren, (UCI Chancellor) Jack Peltason and myself saying which we liked the best,” says Irvine Mayor Sally Anne Sheridan. “We kind of liked the mauve.” Mauve it is.
