FRESNO — Officials on Tuesday released the names of the final two fatalities to be identified from the massive Interstate 5 chain-reaction crash involving 93 vehicles the day after Thanksgiving.
The Fresno County coroner’s office said the victims were Richard W. Kurkop, 55, of Ceres, and Carl L. Eppich, 71, of Saugus.
A total of 17 people died and an estimated 150 others were injured in what state and federal officials believe was the worst multi-vehicle accident in the nation’s history in terms of the numbers of both dead and injured.
Sixteen people remained in Fresno hospitals Tuesday, three of them in critical condition.
