Goodyear to Boost Alabama Plant Production: Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. announced that it will expand its Gadsden, Ala., plant to make more tires for minivans and multipurpose vehicles. William J. Sharp, executive vice president of product supply, said the $10.8-million expansion will increase production by 2,800 tires per day and secure 160 jobs. It will be the first production boost at the plant since 1977, Goodyear said. Sharp said vehicle registrations indicate that there are nearly 44 million light trucks and multipurpose vehicles in the United States.
