Stanford sophomore Brian Retterer set an American record in the 100-yard backstroke in the Pacific 10 Men’s Swimming Championships at Belmont Pool in Long Beach. His time of 46.70 seconds beating the old mark 47.01, set by David Berkoff in 1989.
