COUNTYWIDE : Sporadic Rain Showers County

An Alaskan storm swept across Ventura County on Sunday, bringing misting rain, sporadic showers and a damp, chilly wind.

“This won’t be a significant rain, although we are getting more than I thought,” said Terry Schaeffer, an agricultural meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Santa Paula. He predicted that, by early today, storm clouds would drop about 0.1 inch of rain in lower elevations and perhaps 0.2 inch in the mountains.

“We would like to get 15 to 20 times that amount,” Schaeffer said. “The main benefit of this rain will be to wash the dust off the trees.”

Sunday’s front was only the second storm to hit the county during the first seven weeks of California’s rainy season.

The storm kept temperatures in the low 60s in most areas of the county. Steve Burback, a meteorologist with WeatherData Inc., said the storm should have cleared the county by early today, raising temperatures by about 10 degrees.
