Father Surrenders Son, 14, in Death of Toddler
An Inglewood man has surrendered his 14-year-old son to police in connection with last week’s shooting death of a 3-year-old girl.
Erma Esquerra was shot on Oct. 27 as she was riding in a car driven by her uncle. At Prairie Avenue and Century Boulevard in Inglewood, a youth in the back of a pickup truck began firing a gun and one bullet hit the child in the head. She died a day later at Centinela Hospital Medical Center.
The suspect’s father took him to the Inglewood Police Department Monday evening. The youth, whom police say is an admitted gang member, is being held in Eastlake Juvenile Facility on suspicion of murder. Police said their public appeal for information after the shooting produced several witnesses who told them about the truck’s location and possible suspects, said Sgt. Alex Perez.
