Williams Scores 3 to Lead UCLA Win

Kevin Williams rushed for 112 yards and three touchdowns and Louis Perez kicked three field goals Saturday as 23rd-ranked UCLA rolled to a 44-3 Pacific 10 Conference victory over Washington State at the Rose Bowl.

The Bruins (6-2 overall, 4-1 Pac-10) took a 17-0 lead by scoring on their first three possessions and were in control throughout in extending their winning streak to four games.

Williams scored on a three-yard run to cap a 57-yard, eight-play drive and a one-yard sweep of left end to climax an 80-yard, eight-play march, making it 14-0.

His third touchdown came on a four-yard run midway through the third quarter, capping an 85-yard, 12-play drive and extending UCLA’s lead to 30-0.

Perez, who kicked only five field goals in nine attempts in UCLA’s previous seven games, had two 44-yarders in the second quarter and a 37-yarder in the third period.

The Cougars (3-5, 2-3) lost a touchdown late in the first period when a 41-yard pass from Drew Bledsoe to Phillip Bobo was nullified because of a holding penalty.

Washington State, which averaged 29 points in its first seven games, didn’t threaten again until getting close enough for Jason Hanson to kick a 51-yard field goal late in the third quarter, making it 30-3.
