Jose Vidal Ortiz, accused of being a repeat drunk driver who for a time baffled law enforcement officials because of his use of aliases, was ordered Thursday to stand trial in Vista Superior Court on multiple counts of felony drunk driving.
Ortiz, 33, a Fallbrook migrant worker, reportedly has been arrested five times since May--including four times in September--for drunk driving, using aliases to deceive arresting officers from the Oceanside Police Department, the California Highway Patrol and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
Ortiz was convicted of drunk driving twice in 1988 and again in 1989.
Vista Municipal Judge Donald E. Rudloff ordered Ortiz to be arraigned in Superior Court on Nov. 7. Because of a violation of previous probation, Ortiz was ordered held without bail in the Vista jail.
