SANTA ANA — A family of nine was left homeless Wednesday when a fire broke out in their garage and gutted part of their home, fire officials said.
Firefighters were still sifting through the rubble in the garage at 914 N. Parsons Place to find the cause of the fire, which started shortly before 11:30 a.m., said Jan Smith of the Santa Ana Fire Department. There were no injuries.
“It seems they set the garage up like a room or something and the fire started there,” she said, adding that the blaze also gutted the home’s kitchen.
The American Red Cross was providing food and temporary shelter for the six adults and three children living at the house.
The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damage, Smith said.
