Nation IN BRIEF : MISSISSIPPI : Bush Shifts Stand on Black Colleges

The Bush Administration has reversed its stand on a major desegregation case before the Supreme Court and will argue that Mississippi must correct disparities in state support of historically black and white colleges. The case deals with Mississippi’s responsibility for completing integration at the college level. In July, the Justice Department filed a brief saying there was no constitutional obligation “to correct disparities” in allocations to universities.
