PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Allen Gets Three More Weeks Off
Injured tailback Marcus Allen will not return to the roster until the Raiders’ game at Denver on Nov. 10, Coach Art Shell said Monday.
Shell has decided to keep Allen out of next Monday night’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs to take advantage of the Raiders’ bye the following week.
The decision not only allows Allen an additional three weeks to recover, it keeps Allen off the artificial surface at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium.
Allen strained right knee ligaments in the opener at Houston when he cut on the artificial turf at the Astrodome.
“It’s more time for him,” Shell said. “We want to make sure that he’s totally sound.”
Allen will continue his rehabilitation on his own. A projected return for Allen in Denver would allow him to play five of the last seven games in grass stadiums.
Tight end Ethan Horton, a converted running back, is creating nightmares for opposing defensive coordinators. Sunday, the Rams attempted to cover Horton with a linebacker. He caught four passes for 93 yards.
“I think I have a great advantage because of my speed,” Horton said. “After I get into my route, I think I can outrun any linebacker.”
