PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Dupree Might Be Activated
For the first time since Marcus Dupree’s toe injury in the middle of training camp, Coach John Robinson seriously raised the possibility of activating the tailback from the injured-reserve list.
“He is a prospect. . . . I don’t know if he’s suddenly going to be doing a lot of playing,” Robinson said. “He’s a good young player that I’ve got to try to get playing if I can.”
Recently, Robinson said he hesitated activating Dupree, who was recovered enough to play several weeks ago, because he didn’t see what kind of role Dupree would fill playing behind Robert Delpino and Cleveland Gary.
With Delpino and Gary, the Rams are averaging only 3.3 yards a carry this season, but Robinson denied that Dupree would be activated, then step right in as the main runner.
Robinson said tackle Robert Jenkins, who had a dislocated toe, will almost certainly be activated this week and be used as a backup.
Although linebacker Brett Faryniarz, who had a left knee injury, and defensive tackle Mike Piel, who had an injured left shoulder, are probably sound enough to play, Robinson said he isn’t sure either could play a lot Sunday against Atlanta because they have missed so much time.
Robinson said wide receiver Flipper Anderson is not expected to play Sunday. He has a back injury.
