St. Paul 11, Notre Dame 7--Shawn McKinney gained 104 yards in 19 carries and scored the game-winning touchdown to lead host St. Paul (1-5, 1-1).
With St. Paul trailing, 7-3, early in the fourth quarter, McKinney scored on a two-yard run on a fourth-and-goal play. His two-point conversion run off a fake kick set the final score.
Notre Dame (1-4-1, 0-3) marched to the St. Paul 26-yard line on the ensuing drive, but quarterback Darren Firestone’s fourth-down pass was broken up.
Firestone scored on a 15-yard run on Notre Dame’s first play from scrimmage to give the Knights a 7-0 lead. Firestone’s run was set up by Greg Winter, who intercepted a pass by St. Paul’s Matt Lenzen and returned it 17 yards. Leitualasa Malieitulua gained 48 yards in nine carries for Notre Dame.
