Four Interceptions by Sunny Hills Thwart Sonora

LA HABRA — Sunny Hills rushed for 242 yards and had four interceptions as the Lancers defeated Sonora, 21-3, in the Freeway League opener for both teams Friday night at La Habra High School.
Sunny Hills running back Marlon Womack rushed for a game-high 126 yards in 21 carries and scored two touchdowns. His six-yard touchdown run in the second quarter gave Sunny Hills (3-3, 1-0 in league) a 7-3 lead with 10 minutes 2 seconds left in the second quarter.
The touchdown was set up by a blocked punt recovery by Henry Naliielua at the Sonora 36. Womack scored six plays later.
Sunny Hills took a 14-3 lead when Peter Rodriguez intercepted a pass and returned it 62 yards for a touchdown with 3:37 left in the half. Rodriguez stopped another Sonora first-half drive with an interception.
Bobby Sunderland and Brent Howes each had second-half interceptions for Sunny Hills.
Sunny Hills’ final score came when Womack capped a 75-yard, 13-play drive with a one-yard touchdown run midway in the third quarter.
Robert Knowles was 27 of 46 with four interceptions and 235 yards for Sonora (2-4, 0-1).
