Loara Rushes From Behind to Defeat Cypress, 28-12
ANAHEIM — Loara used a powerful running game and three second-half touchdowns to defeat Cypress, 28-12, in an Empire League game Friday at Handel Stadium.
Although three Saxons rushed for more than 100 yards in the game, Loara trailed, 12-7, at halftime. Robert Bradshaw gave Loara the lead for good with a 36-yard touchdown run on the third play of the second half. Bradshaw led all rushers with 113 yards in 18 carries.
Loara (4-2, 1-0) took a 21-12 lead on a 10-yard run by Mister Albritton early in the fourth quarter. Dennis Dawson then closed the scoring with a 30-yard run with 6 minutes 56 seconds to play. Albritton and Dawson finished with 103 and 101 yards, respectively.
After Loara had taken a 7-0 lead on a seven-yard run by Les Cobb, Cypress (2-4, 0-1) came back with a pair of touchdown runs. Aaron Martinez’s 35-yard put the Centurions ahead, 6-0, with 1:11 left in the first quarter. The extra point failed. Mike Brito made it 12-0 with a one yard run with eight seconds remaining in the first half. The extra-point attempt again failed.
Loara won despite being penalized 20 times for 195 yards. The Saxons had 341 yards in offense, including 322 rushing. Albritton attempted only five passes, completing one for 25 yards and was intercepted once.
