Durocher Deserved Spot in the Hall of Fame

The other Leo Durocher: The guy had almost a dual personality and a real big heart.
In the mid-’50s, he was connected with NBC in Hollywood. It was not possible for me to return to Royal Oak, Mich., for my mother’s 80th birthday.
Leo arranged on one of their afternoon programs to have her congratulated, coast to coast, after which they delivered two dozen roses right to that little old lady living all by herself. That made her day and her year.
That “nice guy” is still first with me.
