Response to horse racing’s new timing scheme:
Any beginning science class teaches the student that the accuracy of an equation is limited by the least accurate variable. In the horse game, there exists such a multitude of uncertain variables that a few hundredths of a second in a 70-second race will not add to the accuracy of measuring the horse’s ability.
