Newspaper Owner’s Bail Is Increased
The co-owner of the Antelope Valley Press newspaper was jailed Friday after arriving late for a Lancaster court hearing on assault, cocaine possession and other charges stemming from an incident in which he allegedly threatened a woman with a shotgun.
Lancaster Superior Court Judge Charles Horan also increased William W. Odett’s bail from $20,000 to $100,000 after noting that the 45-year-old Palmdale resident was late for his last hearing Sept. 20. In addition, Odett was arrested in July after missing his arraignment.
Odett faces trial Nov. 12 on felony assault with a deadly weapon and cocaine possession charges and two other misdemeanors stemming from a May 16 incident in which he allegedly ordered a telephone book delivery woman away from his Palmdale home at gunpoint.
