PREP FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Hess Does All the Scoring as Corona del Mar Beats Costa Mesa

Corona del Mar kept a 12-year winning streak against Costa Mesa alive as running back Tom Hess scored all of the Sea Kings’ points in a 17-14 victory at Newport Harbor High School.
Hess had two rushing touchdowns, two PATs and a field goal.
Both teams struggled after the first half, neither mounting a serious threat. The difference for the Sea Kings (2-2-1) was Hess’ 37-yard field goal as time ran out in the first half.
Costa Mesa (2-3) opened the scoring with 6:55 left in the first quarter on Fernando Ospina’s three-yard run, set up on a 58-yard run by Johnny Ospina (no relation). Johnny Ospina suffered a right hamstring injury on the gain and was lost for the game.
