This Fan Still Looking for Someone to Believe In
NBC’s “Babe Ruth” special proved once again that heroes are indeed, hard to find. At least my kind of heroes!
Presuming the show was an accurate biographical sketch, Ruth was portrayed as an egotisical, self-centered, cigar-smoking, fun-loving, alcoholic, bohemian, with great athletic skills.
This “piece of work” has become our national hero for thousands of young men and has served as an exalted role model of legendary proportions for decades. Like so many athletes today, Ruth couldn’t manage himself, let alone the Yankees, which was his unfullfilled dream. This guy makes modern-day role models, such as Jose Canseco, seem like Peter Pan by comparison.
