Ex-Banker Sentenced: Former Orange County banker John G. Willett was sentenced Monday to four years in prison for his role in a bank fraud.
Willett, 43, of Fullerton had testified in July for the prosecution in the bank fraud trial of South County developer William E. Crowder.
Crowder was convicted of bank fraud and submitting false statements to acquire bank loans in the mid-1980s. Willett pleaded guilty last year to helping Crowder falsify loan documents.
If the sentence for Willett seems a bit stiff, it may be because this is his second bank-fraud conviction. He was convicted of fraud charges stemming from the 1982 collapse of Western National Bank in Santa Ana, where he was president.
