BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Success Proves Fickle for Grahe
Joe Grahe finally got his first victory as a starter Friday, throwing a complete-game, four-hitter to lead the Angels past the Brewers, 2-1. How does Manager Buck Rodgers thank him?
He takes him out of the starting rotation.
Rodgers simply wants to look at some other young pitchers without hindering the chances of Chuck Finley, Mark Langston and Jim Abbott of winning 20.
Kyle Abbott will make his major league debut Tuesday night against the Texas Rangers, taking Kirk McCaskill’s spot in the rotation, and Scott Lewis, who was recalled from triple-A Edmonton on Friday, will start Wednesday night instead of Grahe.
Grahe, meanwhile, took the news in stride.
“You’ve got to take what you can get,” he said. “I’m just going to be patient, and when the time comes around I’ll be ready.”
