Getting there: Fly Pan Am, TWA, KLM or Finnair to Athens. An advance-purchase, round-trip fare is between $1,522 and $1,572. Olympic Airways will get you from Athens to Mykonos for $43. Olympic also flies nonstop New York-Athens for $1,088 to $1,138. A large ferry makes the five-hour trip daily from Athens’ port of Piraeus to Mykonos for about $15. It’s a beautiful ride passing other islands.
A few fast facts: Greece’s drachma recently sold for about 172 to the dollar, or .0058 per drachma. Best weather is from May through October, but make or confirm Mykonos hotel reservations from Athens any time June-August.
