Boy, 13, Dies of Wound From Drive-By Attack

A 13-year-old Pacoima boy has died of a gunshot wound in the head, suffered as he stood near a group of gang members, authorities said Friday.

Eddie Perez died late Thursday, according to a spokeswoman for Harbor-UCLA Hospital in Torrance where he was treated. Eddie was hit by a shot fired from a passing car Tuesday as he stood in a driveway in the 11000 block of Norris Avenue.

Eddie, who police said was not a gang member, often tagged along with his 16-year-old brother’s friends, some of whom associated with a Pacoima street gang.

The incident marked the third time this week that a Los Angeles County youth fell victim to gang violence despite a peripheral relationship to gang activity, police said.
