STANTON — A Garden Grove youth was shot to death early Sunday as he sat in his car outside a bar, authorities said.
Orange County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Joe Davis said a deputy heard shots fired about 12:20 a.m. as he was driving by the Sea Horse bar in the 8000 block of Orangewood Avenue and saw several people run from a parked car.
“The deputy went to the car and found the victim in the front seat,” Davis said. “He had been shot once in the chest.”
The victim, Raymond Anthony Mendoza, 17, was dead on arrival at UCI Medical Center, Davis said.
Eight people were detained for questioning, he added, but no one was arrested.
“It’s still undetermined if it’s gang-related,” Davis said. “The investigation is continuing.”
