Lockheed Ordered to Pay in Racial Case: A Superior Court jury in San Jose ordered Lockheed Missiles & Space Co. to pay $925,000 to Norman B. Drake, a black employee who contended that he was demoted for complaining about racial harassment by co-workers. The jury said the aerospace concern retaliated against him but didn’t intentionally discriminate against him because of his race. A former satellite controller, Drake was made a Lockheed security guard. A Lockheed spokesman said the facts don’t support the jury’s verdict and called the award excessive. He said Lockheed will appeal.
