The Orange County Cardinals defeated U.S. Bank of Bothell, Wash., 8-4, in an elimination-round game Friday night at the Connie Mack Pacific Regional Tournament in Bellevue, Wash.
USC’s Kent Donnelly, formerly of Foothill High, went the distance to earn the victory and had three hits. USC’s Greg Tippin, a former Canyon High standout, also had three hits, and Richie Hills of Esperanza had two hits.
The Cardinals received a bye for today’s play by winning a coin toss, and Sunday morning will play Berkovich, Calif., or Phoenix for the right to play for the championship Sunday evening. The regional winner earns a berth in the Connie Mack World Series in Farmington, N.M.
