The Growth of Asian Businesses

The number of businesses owned by Asian Americans, Native Americans and Pacific Islanders in Los Angeles County grew 64% between 1982 and 1987, according to a survey released Thursday by the Commerce Department. The county also continues to rank first in the nation in the number of businesses owned by members of those groups. Additionally, total receipts generated by the Los Angeles companies more than doubled in the five-year period to $687 million. In comparison, businesses in New York, which ranked second in total number, generated $243 million in receipts in 1987.
