LUCIANO IN LONDON
KCET Hits a High Note: Deciding to cash in on Pavarotti’s enormous popularity, KCET Channel 28 created a special pledge night Tuesday to accompany the telecast from London. The results: $84,502, from 1,198 pledges. Last March, a concert featuring Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras reaped a huge windfall for KCET and other PBS stations during a spring pledge drive. The first of four airings of that program on KCET brought $213,000, and at each airing, pledges exceeded the public station’s goals by tens of thousands of dollars. KCET’s next full pledge drive will be Aug. 14-26, when you can expect to hear the tenors sing again.
