California IN BRIEF : SACRAMENTO : Brown Names Roos to Education Panel

Assembly Speaker Willie Brown (D-San Francisco) appointed former Speaker Pro Tem Mike Roos, currently the head of an organization seeking to improve the quality of Los Angeles schools, to the California Postsecondary Education Commission. Roos, a former Democratic assemblyman from Los Angeles, resigned from the lower house last March to accept the position with the Los Angeles organization. On the state commission, he fills the remainder of a term that expires Dec. 31 and will receive $100 per meeting day.
