Christie’s Cites Global Slump in Fine Art Sales

LONDON — Christie’s auction house is reporting a slump in worldwide sales of fine art, particularly for Impressionist and contemporary works.
Sales between August, 1990, and July, 1991, by Christie’s were $1.2 billion, down by more than a half from the period a year earlier, the auctioneer said Thursday.
