Ely Trial an Abuse of Office
The recent prosecution of former Community College Trustee Tom Ely and his wife Ingrid really concerns me. It’s one thing to try and defeat your opponents in an election, but quite another to use the district attorney’s office and our tax dollars to do it.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Carol Nelson said, “This conviction will make sure Tom is never able to hold public office again.” Well, that might be fine for them, but I voted for Tom, and this trial cost the county hundreds of thousands of our county tax dollars.
Dist. Atty. Michael Bradbury himself mentioned at the county budget hearings that it was the Elys’ trial that helped push his office $630,000 over budget.
I believe that if we continue to allow Bradbury to abuse his office in this way, we are no better than he is.
