BALTIMORE — A policeman told to surrender his gun Wednesday after he was charged with child molestation instead used it to shoot two superior officers and kill himself during a hearing at police headquarters.
Officer Calloway Hatcher, 56, was meeting with superiors to determine whether he should be suspended with pay after his arrest Tuesday, police spokesman Dennis Hill said.
Hatcher was charged with sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl, a relative. The girl’s mother said she believed the abuse began four years ago and last occurred in June, Hill said.
He said Lt. Michael Waudby was shot in the chest and Maj. Peter Shaulis was shot in the head. Both were in critical condition.
