40 Employees Evacuated After Fire at Hospital
About 40 employees were briefly evacuated from Alhambra Community Hospital Wednesday morning after an X-ray machine caught fire, authorities said.
There were no injuries in the 8 a.m. blaze, Alhambra Fire Capt. Bernard Villalobos said. But the bottom floor of the hospital--which houses the emergency room, pharmacy, X-ray department, rehabilitation room and cafeteria--was shut down for about 90 minutes as Los Angeles County health inspectors checked the hospital, he said.
An X-ray technician used an extinguisher to put out the fire, which started when a malfunctioning fan belt caused an X-ray processing machine to overheat.
