Yellow Ribbons
Why are the yellow ribbons still up? The war was declared finished, the welcome home parades and festivities have been held and still there are yellow ribbons adorning many trees and buildings. The ribbons look tired, dirty and torn.
Unfortunately there will always be armed forces stationed somewhere in the world. Are the ribbons to be left up until all the troops are home? In that case, the ribbons will always be with us. Or have the yellow ribbons become another “symbol” of patriotism to be displayed on holidays, etc.? That was not the original intent of the ribbons.
Let’s take the ribbons down and hope that it won’t be necessary to put them up again. Let’s start from today and look forward to a peaceful tomorrow.
