Remarks on Saving Species Misleading, Show Ignorance of Systems of Nature
- Share via
In reference to Barbara McCarthy’s July 7 letter to The Times: Barbara McCarthy is obviously ignorant of the systems of nature. She suggests that it is all right to eliminate the kangaroo rat because of some inconvenience that the species caused her in returning from her summer home after an absence.
This type of thinking is the same that has caused the elimination of most of our larger predators and has disrupted the food chain. We, as a species, must preserve biodiversity. We must learn to adapt to our environment rather than molding it to our greatest convenience with no consideration of the destruction. Her suggestions were truly anthropocentric.
