Japan Official Cuts His Own Pay: Japan Finance Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto said he will cut his own salary by 10% for three months starting now to take responsibility for insufficient supervision of the country’s brokerage firms. “This is the punishment I impose on myself. I am very sorry,” he told reporters in Tokyo. He said that four other senior Ministry of Finance officials were given strong warnings and that two of them voluntarily agreed to accept the same 10% salary cut for three months.
