Arraignment Delayed for Rapper Vanilla Ice

Arraignment was delayed Monday for rapper Vanilla Ice, who faces misdemeanor gun charges in a June 3 incident involving a transient outside a 24-hour grocery store in Studio City.

Robert Van Winkle, the singer’s real name, faces misdemeanor counts of possessing a loaded weapon, possessing a concealed weapon in public, and allowing a car passenger to possess a gun. If convicted, the 23-year-old singer faces up to two years in jail. The rapper’s attorney appeared in Van Nuys Municipal Court for his client and was granted a continuance until July 24.

On June 3 at about 2 a.m., Ice and three friends were in the singer’s Jeep outside a Ralphs at Laurel Canyon and Ventura boulevards. James Gregory, 35, said he tried to sell them a necklace but was chased by men waving guns. He called police, believing the four were robbers.
